Every person deserves the right to discover meaningful work.

Volunteers of America's Working Order program, develops and supports entrepreneurships for individuals with disabilities and others seeking to be self employed. Working Order identifies alternatives to help individuals overcome obstacles preventing traditional employment. Working Order helps develop business plans, feasibility studies and marketing support. Working Order offers computer training, teaches business accounting, provides assistive technology support, encourages networking and brokers sales. Working Order continues support by finding trial work opportunities and promoting sales to community connections.

Working Order offers opportunities that lower the 71% unemployment statistic for individuals with disabilities. Member entrepreneurs of Working Order include talented graphic designers, web developers, massage therapists, note card designers, illustrators, database managers, transcriptionists, telemarketers and word processors. Sales of promotional business products, note cards, photography, jewelry and ceramics and skilled services including photo archiving, document scanning, shredding, office design, move coordination, lawn care maintenance, dog training, a mobile notary, a nurse advocate and a grant writer make up the many small businesses. Working Order is proud to be a Winner of the 2006 Goodwill Power of Work Award.

Both programs have operations in the same building conveniently located at 1650 Main Street in Sharpsburg. until January 1, 2008,

To support Volunteers of America's efforts in Western Pennsylvania, call to hire our entrepreneurs when your company is outsourcing work, to volunteer to share business skills and experience, or to make a cash or vehicle donation to help sustain and enhance the services described.

If you do get sued for any reason, the intermingling of business and personal funds provides ammunition for the court to go after personal assets in addition to the business assets

Know how to choose which software program is a good choice for your business.

Why Talking Improves a Provider/Patient Relationship

Dr. Cruz, recipient of a Patient-Oriented Career Development Award through the National Institute of Mental Health has concentrated his research on finding ways to reduce mental health care disparities and to improve provider-patient interaction. The focus of his studies has been low income and/or African- American patients with mood disorders.

With Dr. Cruz™s help, we will better understand how consumers can improve the care they receive by talking to their psychiatrist; how collaborating on treatment decisions is an important part of treatment; how some simple tips will help you overcome the barriers to developing a mutually beneficial relationship with your psychiatrist, and why doctor/patient relationships sometimes prove to be so difficult. Dr. Cruz has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in these areas.
