In honor of Black History month we will be interviewing the 2015 Woman of Achievement Spirit of the 19th Amendment honoree Constance Гc??ConnieГc?? Portis. Ms. Portis founded Renaissance Publications in 1984. She published the Renaissance News a weekly newspaper, The Greater Pittsburgh Black Business Directory, the WomenГc??s Yellow Pages, created and coordinated the Black Extravaganza and Trailblazer Awards and Womanpower seminar for African American women. She is responsible for creating networking events including Pope to People Connections, womanpower Networking events, Balck Business Holiday Expos, buying out entire Pittsburgh Public Theater nights and hosting and all-African American audience to see August WilsonГc??s plays she was the first African American to rent the entire Carnegie Museum and host more 1000 guests annually for 16 years. Ms. Portis is the former Assistant Director of Equal Opportunity for te Department of the Auditor General for the state of Pennsylvania. Ms. Portis was responsible for the DepartmentГc??s statewide employee Equal Opportunity program. Special guest today is Alma Speed Fox, Civil Rights champion and community advocate. Ms. Fox is one of the 2014 Celebrate & Share Women of Achievement Honoree. This upcoming event, The 9th Annual Celebrate & Share Women of Achievement benefiting Cribs for Kids is being held on March 6 , 2014 at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. The 2014 event honors 26 women in the Pittsburgh region who have made significant contributions to our area. March's is women's history month and since 2002 Celebrate & Share has sponsored or conducted activities that honors the achievement of women . Ms. Fox is a 91 year old activist who has an Amazing story to tell about the history of the civil right movement in the Pittsburgh area.

Charlotte E. Lott, Ph.D., is associate professor of economics and business at Chatham University where she teaches about the issues of economic development in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. She has taught at Chatham University for 28 years and during that time she has directed over 100 senior research projects with Chatham women on topics ranging from transparency in philanthropic giving to the impact of mobile banking on financial systems in developing countries. Since 2004 Charlotte has been a Board member of Oikocredit Western Pennsylvania, a support association of the international organization. Oikocredit is a worldwide cooperative and social investor that provides funding to the microfinance sector, fair trade organizations, cooperatives, and small to medium enterprises. As an active participant in Oikocredit, she has spoken to many groups in Pittsburgh on microfinance, and she has served as the Pennsylvania representative to the global cooperative at three international meetings. Charlotte is an active member of her church, the Community of Reconciliation in the neighborhood of Oakland. The Community of Reconciliation was founded in 1968 as an inter-racial congregation, and it continues its mission as a Гc??radically inclusiveГc?? church. She has served as a volunteer on the church board, teacher of Christian education, and financial assistant. Charlotte is happily married to Randy for 42 years and has four grown children and two grandchildren. Four points Гc?c As a professor at Chatham University, Charlotte Lott has taught many women in her 28 years at the institution. She has directed over 100 senior research projects working closely with students in a yearlong project that the student designs, implements, and presents orally and in written form. Гc?c Charlotte has worked to internationalize the Chatham campus through incorporating international issues in her classes and by leading study travel abroad to Paris and Berlin. This summer she is co-leading an undergraduate student research trip to Taiwan to study female entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry. Гc?c Charlotte is currently president of the Board of Directors of Oikocredit Western Pennsylvania, a support association for Oikocredit, which provides funding to the microfinance sector and other productive enterprises. Гc?c With her interest in economic development and microfinance she has given many presentations in the Pittsburgh area, most recently at the Engendering Development Colloquium sponsored by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History last April.

Today's guest Christy Uffelman one of the 2014 Celebrate & Share Women of Achievement Honorees. Christy is a young woman on the move who has been recognized by a number of organizations including receiving the 2013 Athena Young Professional Award. She has been facilitating peer learning and coaching executives for almost a decade, helping them align talent strategy with business strategy. Christy launched the east coast office of Align Leadership centering on executive coaching, women's leadership development, and Millennial/Gen Y initiatives helping organizations engage and develop their emerging talent pipeline. On the cusp of the Millennial generation herself, Christy brings credibility and passion to organizations that want to better understand and leverage their young talent. Christy spent six years as a Vice President with Mascaro Construction, a regional general contractor, where she was the first female manager and executive staff member. Christy helped Mascaro transition from first to second generation ownership and served as an internal organization development strategist for workforce planning and integrated talent management. In 2008, the Association of General Contractors honored Mascaroa's innovative talent initiatives with their national Education Excellence Award. The Pittsburgh Human Resources Association awarded Mascaro the 2011 People Do Matter Award for excellence in learning and development, and in 2012, the Pittsburgh Business Times recognized Christy with their Human Resources Leadership Award. As both the 2012 ATHENA Young Professional and YWCA Young Leader of the Year Awardee, Christy's passion is leadership development through cohort-based learning. Christy has over seven years experience in facilitating peer mentoring as the founder of EMPOWER (a working motherc's group) and co-founder of the Circle of Trust (an innovative mentoring vehicle for high-potentials in the Pittsburgh region). Christy leveraged those successes to create the Strong Leaders Program with Strong Women, Strong Girls, a leadership development and coaching skills program that launched nationally in 2012. Align Leadership offers those same experiences in an organizational cohort model offering a just-in-time learning for emerging and mid-level leaders, an innovative twist on traditional corporate mentoring programs. Christy serves on the national Board of Directors with Strong Women, Strong Girls, the Executive Leadership team for the United Way's Women's Leadership Council, and was a Subcommittee Chair for Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald's Financial Sustainability Vision Team. Christy offers her expertise on the Advisory Council for the YWCA and Junior Achievement. A lifelong Girl Scout and 1995 Gold Award Winner, Christy is on the Marketing and Communications Advisory Committee for the Girl Scouts of western Pennsylvania and volunteers as a local Brownie leader engaging 19 fourth graders to develop and practice their leadership skills. Christy grew up in the City of Pittsburgh in Sheraton and graduated from Duquesne University with a B.A. in both Psychology and in Corporate Communication. She is a board certified ontological coach from Newfield and a certified Master Human Capital Strategist from the Human Capital Institute. Christy lives in Mt. Lebanon with her husband, Kevin, their ten year old daughter, Elaina, and an empowered hamster named Pixie.

Premiere Episode 2014 Women of Achievement Awards. Today's honoree Joann Sciullio of Cussumano Insurance Agency. Joann Cusumano Sciulli shares her experiences of growing up in a family owned insurance busienss. While growing up, discussions regarding insureds were commonly heard around the dinner table. After graduating in 1977 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Business Management/Marketing, Joann joined her father in the agency. She looks back and cherishes the time when he took her under his wing and taught her the business. In all accounts, Joann recollects her father as the toughest teacher she ever had. However, she notes that as she has evolved in the insurance profession, his words of wisdom continue to guide her along the way. She has been involved in all aspects of the agency for the past thirty-seven years. She currently oversees both the commercial lines and accident/health departments in production, underwriting and customer service. In addition, both automation and financial functions are within her scope of management. Although Joann has seen many changes within this industry, the one thing that remains steadfast is her agencys commitment to the agency and clients Joann has her professional designation of Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI). She actively seeks educational courses that enable her to readily address changes within the industry. Throughout the years, she has contributed in active roles to the various insurance companies Agents Advisory Councils. She currently sits on the Member Advisory Panel for the Independent Insurance Agents of PA and on the board of directors for the Insurance Club of Pittsburgh. Joann resides in Upper St. Clair with her husband Michael. She has two children, Teresa and Michael.
