This was Mary Pam's very vibrant elevator pitch at NAWBO's yearly membership reception where all attendees got to do a brief advertisement for their business.  This is one of the few time we were able to pin our former Program Director and President of NAWBO in front of the camera.  Mary Pam passed peacefully in her home with her family on July 23, 2013

Mary Pam was  a merry soul... a person who embraced life and loved to be around people
She was always ready to extend a hand to help, to help at an event, give a ride, feed a person, train someone and love someone.  She will be sorely missed by many, and her passing leaves a hole which in her own generosity she would want filled.  NAWBO celebrates her life  Saturday, July 27 at a luncheon to honor Mary Pam Kilogre from 12 noon to 2:30pm  at the Urban Mountain Gathering Place at 213 Bailey Avenue, Pittsburgh Pa.  We will share our many memories, tears and laughter together.

Mary Pam actually planned this event in hopes she could attend.  NAWBO Greater Pittsburgh had planned to give her the Gillian Rudd Founder's Award.  We had hoped not to do it posthumously. Find additional info about Mary Pam at:  http://nawbopittsburgh.org

No BS Marketing Meeting
Tuesday, November 29 | 3:00-5:30PM
Sigma's Conference & Event Center

Watch our WORST video ever!

Joanne, I have a confession to make. THIS is the WORST video we've ever shot! Bad lighting. Extreme close with my head cut off. It's bad.

BUT. It does have great content!

WATCH OUR WORST VIDEO HERE!
Important: This video will only be up today and tomorrow.

Or, if you prefer to read, here's the content:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Be grateful for your competition!
Your competition isn't to be feared. Instead, you should be thankful they're around. Why? because competition makes the economy better. Free enterprise is based on competition and it drives business. Without competition our economy would suffer and be in the hands of very few people...with too much power. Competition levels the playing field and forces businesses to be better.

Second, competition makes YOU better. Have you ever gone to an event with your competition in the room? What happens? You step your game up, don't you? You prepare more. You present better. So, be thankful your competition is there - they're making you better.

Third, competition makes your customers better. That's right - when's there's more businesses trying to get attention, your customers have to work harder and become more educated. They can now understand and realize why you're the best business to go to. They also become more loyal because of this process.

So, don't fear your competition. Embrace them and be grateful for them. They're making the economy, YOU, and your customers better!

And speaking of getting better...come join us on Tuesday, November 29th for our No BS Marketing Meeting, where you'll learn how to make the last 6 weeks of the year your most profitable!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See you on November 29th!
Becky Auer

PS - We have TWO important pieces of news for you that we will address at the meeting. Be there to find out first!
PPS - Our HOLIDAY PARTY is directly after the meeting this month!!! Bring some guests because the networking is going to be crazy-good :)
PPPS - No VIP Meeting this month (for VIP's and MM's) due to to the party. Don't worry though b/c we're going to have a final VIP Meeting in December!!!

Kim Hardy, Principal Consultant

SALT Consulting represents the cumulative experience of 16+ years of successful OOAD technology application and 12+ years of successful iterative SDLC methodology application.

SALT Consulting is a division of SALT Productions, LLC.

Strengths

As the principal consultant for SALT Consulting, I do what I do best everyday. My strengths are futuristic, strategic, maximizer, adaptability and ideation. Using these strengths, along with my SDLC and OOAD skills, I help organizations develop their best people, processes and systems to achieve the future state they desire.

Futuristic: "Wouldn't it be great if..." You are the kind of person who loves to peer over the horizon. The future fascinates you. As if it were projected on the wall, you see in detail what the future might hold, and this detailed picture keeps pulling you forward, into tomorrow. [from Now Discover Your Strengths, Buckingham & Clifton]

Strategic: The Strategic theme enables you to sort through the clutter and find the best route. It is not a skill that can be taught. It is a distinct way of thinking, a special perspective on the world at large. This perspective allows you to see patterns where others simply see complexity. [from Now Discover Your Strengths, Buckingham & Clifton]

Maximizer: Excellence, not average, is your measure. Taking something from below average to slightly above average takes a great deal of effort and in your opinion is not very rewarding. Transforming something strong into something suberb takes just as much effort but is much more thrilling. Strengths, whether yours or someone else's, fascinate you. [from Now, Discover Your Strengths, Buckingham & Clifton]

Adaptability: Unlike some, you don't resent sudden requests or unforseen detours. You expect them. They are inevitable. Indeed, on some level you actually look forward to them. You are, at heart, a very flexible person who can stay productive when the demands of work are pulling you in many different directions at once. [from Now, Discover Your Strengths, Buckingham & Clifton]

Ideation: You are fascinated by ideas. What is an idea? An idea is a concept, the best explanation of the most events. You are delighted when you discover beneath the complex surface an elegantly simple concept to explain why things are the way they are. An idea is a connection. Yours is the kind of mind that is always looking for connections, and so you are intrigued when seemingly disparate phenomena can be linked by an obscure connection. An idea is a new perspective on familiar challenges. You revel in taking the world we all know and turning it around so we can view it from a strange but strangely enlightening angle. [from Now, Discover Your Strengths, Buckingham & Clifton]

Wendy Lopez, NAWBOLast year, NAWBO underwent a major organizational transformation-strengthening our organization from within and re-branding on the outside in a concerted effort to better serve our members and position us in the business community.  Now, we have taken the next critical step in our organizational evolution and are proud to announce the appointment of Helen Han to the position of NAWBO President & CEO.

Helen has been serving as NAWBO's Interim Executive Director and has led our efforts in transforming the organization since May 2008. This title change is part of an evolution that has been focused on an organizational development process that positions NAWBO to better serve our stakeholders and allows us to compete more effectively in the business community. The Board of Directors believes that this structural change will position NAWBO to meet our objectives better; and we have plans to conduct a national search by June 30, 2010 to permanently fill this position for which Helen will, of course, be invited to apply.

The 2009-2010 Board of Directors is working closely with Helen and our operations team to develop a three-year strategic plan and performance matrix system that will enable us to focus on long-term strategies for taking the organization to new heights. During our board retreat in August, we identified our priority objectives for the current year as follows:  (1) Build our resources and diversify our funding channels: (2) Launch a national capacity building educational initiative (3) Expand our reach with new audiences - women of color, international and next generation; (4) Re-engage in the public policy arena; (5) Provide next level chapter and leadership development support; and (6) Build an infrastructure to sustain future growth.

It is indeed an exciting time for NAWBO as we announce Helen as our President & CEO; and I have no doubt that Helen will build on her past successes to further strengthen NAWBO to become the premiere organization for women business owners. Join me in congratulating Helen on her new role!
